We Give a Snoof about helping dogs get comfortable muzzles.

Howeverโ€ฆ we understand that not everyone can afford a well-fit muzzle, especially when they need one unexpectedly. Muzzles save dogsโ€™ lives all over the world every day, and we wanted to give those who have more resources a way to help those who need it. Thereforeโ€ฆ If you care about helping those who canโ€™t afford a well-fit muzzle, please consider donating to our Give a Snoof Fund!

Frequently Asked Questionsโ€ฆ

  • We specialize in wire muzzles at Big Snoof, which are made of welded steel. They are extremely durable and strong, and if fitted correctly and securely, are widely considered just about as bite proof as muzzles can get!

However, we agree with many other muzzle makers that the term โ€œbite-proofโ€ is not an ideal way to describe muzzles in general, due to the legal complexities it brings and the fact that itโ€™s impossible to truly scientifically test โ€œbite-proofnessโ€. Still, since weโ€™ve been in business, weโ€™ve not heard a single report of our muzzles failing to prevent a bite in any situation, and in our personal experience with multiple dogs, we have seen them prevent multiple bites.

At the end of the day, it is your responsibility as the caretaker of a muzzled dog to try to keep them out of situations where they would go over threshold far enough to bite. Similarly, it is your responsibility to ensure that the muzzle is securely fit on your dog as much as possible, and to not use a muzzle if it shows signs of damage to the straps keeping it in place. Please reach out to us immediately for assistance if you encounter issues with damage to your muzzle straps; we can help you with purchasing a replacement strap set.

Lastly, in addition to being considered โ€œbite proofโ€, our muzzles are also lightweight, very well ventilated, and perfect for your pup to fully pant, eat, and drink from!

  • Yes, we ship worldwide! You can find info on our shipping rates and policies here.

  • We don't recommend sizing muzzles for "full yawn space", especially if you are ordering a standard size. With custom sizes, we can custom weld them to add a bit of height without compromising the other measurements, though we still size them for full pant room, not full yawn space. We have found that muzzles sized for a full yawn can be less secure and too large, and therefore bulky and uncomfortable for the dog. We have also found that dogs really don't need to be able to absolutely unhinge their jaws for a full yawn; just as you and I are able to yawn with our mouths not fully opened as wide as possible, and from both our experience and customer feedback have found it doesn't seem to bother them or cause any issues, as long as they have that pant space they need.

  • Rubber coated standards are generally a bit heavier than powder coated customs, since the coating is thicker, but it isnโ€™t a big difference. Weโ€™ve not found that dogs notice a difference between them.

We donโ€™t really give out exact weights for our muzzles, because there is quite a bit of variation in each muzzle we build, especially for customs, which are often custom welded, so thereโ€™s no way to know how much it will weigh until it is built.

Regardless, we have consistently found that weight doesnโ€™t tend to be an issue with our muzzles, as long as the dog is adequately muzzle conditioned, and has the correct fit.

  • Rubber coating only comes in black, and is what all Standard Muzzlescome with. It's a bit thicker and heavier than powder coating. Powder Coating, which we use for Custom Muzzles, comes in a huge variety of colors (we can even do multiple colors together) and is a thinner, more light weight coating than rubber coating. The rubber coating is done by our muzzle basket manufacturer, but we do the powder coating ourselves in our workshop. This means that if dogs don't fit into our standard size range, we're able to custom weld muzzles that are powder coated/custom sized to get the right size or shape for custom orders, and we can recoat them if the powder coating needs to be redone in future. We can not recoat Rubber Coating. Neither coating will chip off like paint would, but both coatings can be scratched off, especially if you have a pup who drags their nose across concrete!

Lastly, rubber coated muzzles are commonly thought to be better in very extreme temperatures, since they have a more temperature stable coating, but we feel it is important to note that we do not have actual statistics at this time to compare this.

Generally speaking, both coatings are very durable and longlasting, and you'd be "in good hands" with either one-- which one you go with likely will have more to do with your price point, dog's measurements, and perhaps your aesthetic design preferences than anything else.

  • For muzzles, please refer to the listing you are interested in purchasing for info on wait times. Custom and Standard muzzles have different timelines, and occasionally we run out of certain Standard sizes, which means they are delayed longer. We do our best to keep the timelines updated in the description of the item, so please check there for info. For other gear, it will either ship out with your muzzle, or if you've ordered other gear without a muzzle, it can be expected to ship within 2-3 weeks.

  • While our wire muzzles are not generally considered scavenger-proof, they can prevent scavenging for many not-so-determined scavengers as they come. For more determined scavengers, we offer removable Vinyl Scavenger Guards which snap on and off the front and bottom of the muzzle as a $20 add-on.

  • We accept brachycephalic muzzle orders on a case by case basis, based on the shape and size of your dog. Please refer to our listing for Custom Brachycephalic muzzles for more info on how we can help.

  • You can find our comprehensive measurement guide here!

  • Yes! We offer Klarna at checkout for clients to pay in payments. Alternatively, if Klarna does not work for you, we do have a payment plan available upon request, for a $10 fee. This option is not available for expedited orders. Please Contact Us to inquire about this option. Our Payment Plan splits your order total (including shipping) into two emailed invoice payments. Half is due upon receipt of the invoice, and the other half is due when your order is ready to ship, approximately 3 weeks later. All invoices must be paid in full prior to shipment of the finished muzzle. In the event that we do not receive the second half of your payment within 60 days after the initial payment, your order and deposit will be forfeited. Please make sure to communicate with us immediately if there is any issue with payment.

  • Yes we do! They will be listed for sale here soon, but in the meantime please Email Us for info. You can also add our free biothane samples and business card kit to your order here.

  • We never recommend that caretakers of muzzled dogs leave them unsupervised. It can be dangerous to leave a muzzled dog unattended. Itโ€™s possible that they could catch it on something and be injured by it, or if they managed to get it off, they could chew on it and damage it. Weโ€™d always recommend crating, baby gates, or simply putting dogs in different rooms if they canโ€™t be trusted home alone together.

  • In necessary situations, and with supervision, your dog is safe to wear their Big Snoof muzzle the majority of the day without issue, since they are designed to allow your dog to fully pant and drink water. Please note that they should never be left unsupervised while muzzled!
